The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is Canada’s largest private western-based radio and television company.
The group combines its over 88 years of broadcasting expertise with that of Total Team Involvement in creating a dynamic, innovative, fun, market and community driven organization that is responsive to the well-being of all viewers and listeners 24 hours per day, seven days every week.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group

From our head office in Kamloops, BC, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, Canada’s sixth largest radio group, continues to grow, and is proud to be one of the country’s premier radio groups, operating 29 FM radio stations in 18 key markets throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The Broadcast Group also operates three of Canada’s true independent television stations, in Kamloops and Prince George, BC and Medicine Hat, AB.

One of the keys to the Broadcast Group’s success is the fact that we pride ourselves on giving our outstanding management and employee teams, who live and work in the markets we serve, the autonomy to create the programming best able to generate top ratings and revenue through a commitment to Total Team Involvement. Our core values and six Guiding Principles remain key in continuing to propel the Broadcast Group forward in the 21st century as we build on the momentum of our past successes, with Trust, Integrity, Quality, Innovation, Commitment and Customer Service. Total Team Involvement is the mantra in the Broadcast Group, as our teams are given the responsibility to create, develop, implement and execute best practices in programming and community service each and every day. We also like to have “fun”!

All of our radio stations are committed to being the ears and eyes of the communities we are proudly licensed to serve, with top-rated formats that range from Adult Rock, Top 40, Country, AAA (Adult Album Alternative) to Classic Rock, Adult Contemporary and Soft Vocals. We are also dedicated to the growth of Canadian musical talent. As part of the launch of the new FM station in Vancouver, BC, 100.5 “The Peak”, we introduced the seven-year $5.29 million Peak Performance Project (PPP). The PPP, in conjunction with Music BC, is committed to introducing three emerging BC artists annually to a national stage, including a completed, professionally produced CD, tour support, coaching, airplay and much more. In its first year, more than 450 singers/songwriters and bands applied to participate, with the final 20 chosen – including Bend Sinister, The Painted Birds and Danny Echo – representing all regions of BC. This past summer, all finalists attended a one week music “boot camp” designed to hone their performance, songwriting and much more. In March 2010, the top three winners shared $275,000 in development funding to ensure their success in the Canadian music scene now and in the future.

Our three “independent” television stations are clearly focused on the future of conventional television. In the summer of 2009, CFJC-TV Kamloops, CKPG-TV Prince George and CHAT-TV Medicine Hat announced a new program supply agreement with Rogers Broadcasting Limited, bringing an exciting syndicated lineup of top rated programming such as: Judge Judy, Rachel Ray, Cougar Town, The Biggest Loser, Ugly Betty, 30 Rock, Supernanny, and NFL Football to name just a few. The Broadcast Group is proud of our new association, one that will bring a solid line-up to complement our award-winning local programming on all three of our stations. The Broadcast Group's teams continue to work hard to provide a strong choice for our valued viewers and customers. Combined, the Pattison stations provide more than 40+ hours of “locally” produced news, information and special entertainment programming weekly, throughout the year.

This past year, leading broadcast industry associations recognized the Broadcast Group’s stations in both provinces for outstanding reporting, commercial production and community service. Provincially, the Group received three BC Association of Broadcasters Awards of Excellence and seven BCAB Awards of Merit, while longtime Kamloops News Director/Radio Manager Doug Collins was named BCAB Broadcaster of the Year. In June 2009, the Radio Television News Directors Association honored both CFJC-TV and CHAT-TV with Bert Cannings Awards for Best Newscast, along with five Dave Rogers Awards for radio and television feature stories, and CKBZ-FM Kamloops with the Byron MacGregor Award for Best Radio Newscast in a medium-sized market. On a national level, CFJC-TV Kamloops was recognized with three RTNDA Awards, including the Award for Best Evening News in a small market across Canada. Creative teams across the group were also recognized for outstanding writing and production, with CJXX FM in Grande Prairie winning gold at the Radio Marketing Bureau Crystal Awards. CKKQ-FM Victoria and CKLZ-FM Kelowna were recognized among numerous international entries, winning two categories at the 19th Annual Radio & Production Magazine Awards. We are truly proud of all of our teams for their continued commitment to excellence in our group and the communities we serve.

Speaking of community, the Broadcast Group is totally integrated and committed to the well-being of the 18 markets in which we are licensed, as “community” is what we are all about. This past year, our radio/television stations were the main sponsors of such great charities/events as Relay for Life, The House of Hope, Variety Club Radiothons, KamFest, Free the Fuzz, Rock for Kids/Kids Care, Women of Distinction, Medicine Hat “Positively”, Snow Camp for Kids, Spirit of the North Radiothon, Camp Good Times, Basics for Babies, Cops for Cancer and Our Kids Have Talent, to name but a few. We are proud of who we are and what we can do to make our cities better places in which to live and raise a family, and this past year was no exception, as our stations donated more than $13.4 million in airtime support to hundreds of local events and community service activities.

In addition, our BC stations announced that they had formed a strategic partnership with the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. As exclusive “electronic” radio partner, the stations will support the Foundation in its efforts to promote an ambitious $200 million campaign for BC children and urge all citizens of the province to “Be A Superhero” by supporting the construction of a new Children’s Hospital. With a $2-million direct commitment, we are proud to be associated with such a great campaign!

We are always looking at ways to grow our business, and this past year the Broadcast Group was excited to announce the launch of a “new” media division: Pattison On-Line. Pattison On-Line represents the digital media assets of our combined stations and, with 32 individual sites, we can offer our valued clients over half a million visitors and eight million page views monthly to consumers engaged with our broadcast media properties. We know that advertisers will appreciate the connection with the community that this new program will provide.

The Broadcast Group is proud of our heritage and our people, with a commitment to excellence in everything we do. We firmly believe that, “working together, we’re stronger than ever”, the Broadcast Group will grow and foster more opportunities for our team members and stations in the coming years. Our mission statement, “The spirit to win, the spirit to succeed, the spirit to grow, leads to success for a committed team” will guide the Broadcast Group through the challenges and opportunities that the future will bring!
