December 20, 2013
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Limited Partnership (“Pattison”), announced today that the Canadian Radio Television-Telecommunication Commission (“CRTC”) has approved the application by Jim Pattison Broadcast Group LP to acquire the Bell Media assets of:
- KooL FM 101.5 (CKCE-FM) – Calgary, AB
- QX 104 (CFQX-FM) – Winnipeg, MB
- FAB 94.3 (CHIQ-FM) – Winnipeg, MB
Pattison Chairman, Rick Arnish noted “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming the entire CKCE-FM, CFQX-FM and CHIQ-FM teams into the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. The excellent personnel and great radio stations will be a valuable addition.”
Pattison President, Rod Schween added “Everyone in the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is excited for the opportunity of growing our broadcast group business into the large markets in Calgary and Winnipeg.”
This was an important acquisition for Pattison since it expands the company’s radio presence in Alberta as they also prepare to launch a new Calgary station, CHPK-FM The Peak in 2014. Pattison will now also enter a new market in western Canada with two of the stations purchased, CFQX-FM and CHIQ-FM in Winnipeg. This grows Pattison’s radio footprint as they will now own and operate 33 FM radio stations in western Canada, along with 3 conventional television stations.
The date of the closing of the acquisition will take place in early 2014.
